RECIPE INGREDIENTS
You’ll need the following ingredients to make these delicious Rice Krispie Treats with Sprinkles and White Chocolate:
INGREDIENT NOTES
Sprinkles: I love using “Jimmies” sprinkles because they don’t bleed, but any brand or color of sprinkles will work!
White chocolate melts: These are used to create a smooth and creamy coating for the treats. I prefer using chocolate melts over regular white chocolate chips because they are easier to manipulate, making them ideal for dipping and coating.
HOW TO MAKE RICE KRISPIE TREATS WITH SPRINKLES: STEP-BY-STEP
Here are some quick visual instructions. Remember that full instructions with exact ingredients will be in the printable recipe card below!
Step 1 & 2: Melt butter in a medium/large saucepan over medium heat. Add marshmallows and stir gently until they are melted and combined well with the melted butter.
Pour the melted marshmallows and butter mixture into a large bowl with Rice Krispie cereal. Mix gently. Then, add the sprinkles and mix until the Rice Krispies cereal and the sprinkles are completely coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Step 3: Transfer the Rice Krispie mixture into a well-greased baking dish, pressing the cereal mixture firmly to the bottom of the pan with a silicone spatula or the back of a fork coated with butter or cooking spray.
Allow the krispy treats to set for a few hours until firm.
Steps 4 and 5: Use your favorite cookie cutter to cut out the Rice Krispie treats or cut them into squares using a sharp knife.
Add candy melts and olive oil to a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave in 20-second increments at 50% power. Stir the melted mixture between each increment until you have a nice glossy chocolate.
Dip each of the Rice Krispie treats halfway into the melted chocolate and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper. Decorate the dipped Rice Krispie treats with sprinkles.
RECIPE TIPS & TRICKS
- Allow time for the treats to set. Before cutting and dipping them into white chocolate, make sure the treats are firmly set. If you’re short on time, pop them in the fridge to speed up the process.
- Grease well. Coat your hands, spatula, and baking pan with non-stick cooking spray or butter to prevent the sticky mixture from sticking to surfaces and making it easier to handle.
- Work quickly. Add the sprinkles to the melted white chocolate immediately after dipping the cut treats as the candy melts set much faster than regular chocolate or baking chocolate.
Confidence Tip
To get clean cuts when slicing the treats, spray your sharp knife or cookie cutters with non-stick oil or butter. Wipe between cuts for smoother edges.
STORAGE & REHEATING
Storage: Store leftover cereal treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. After that, it’s best to transfer them to the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
You can also store these gooey Rice Krispie treats in individual-size servings. Just wrap them tightly with plastic wrap and keep them in a storage container or ziplock bag to enjoy when the craving strikes.
Freezing: These marshmallow treats can be frozen for up to 2 months. I recommend you tightly wrap them in plastic wrap and keep them in a large ziplock bag, removing as much air as possible to avoid freezer burn. ADDITIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS
ADDITIONS:
- Chopped nuts: To really take these Rice Krispies treats next level, add some crushed nuts on top of the bars. Peanuts or almonds would add a delicious crunch.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
- Type of sprinkles: If you’re having a themed party, consider matching your crispy treats by using other colors. For example, swap the colorful sprinkles with your favorite team colors to make themed Rice Krispie treats.
- Drizzle instead of dunk: Consider adding the melted white chocolate to a piping bag and drizzling these no-bake treats instead of dunking them.
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Certainly! Most chocolate melts will come with instructions on the back on how to melt. But you want to create a double boiler on the stovetop. Simply place a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Stir the chocolate frequently until fully melted and smooth.
Yes! You would use the same instructions to melt the chocolate but keep in mind that candy melts creates a smoother coating. If using regular chocolate, consider adding more olive oil to help achieve a smoother consistency.
Traditionally, Rice Krispie cereal is used for these delicious treats because the delicate texture and small size is what makes these sweet treats irresistible. You can try other cereal but the consistency and texture may vary depending on what you use.
