YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What’s the difference between taco seasoning and fajita seasoning?

The two seasonings are very similar and are often used interchangeably. However, the biggest difference is in the amount of spice. Taco seasoning has more chili powder and tends to be spicier while fajita seasoning has more cumin and a milder spice level.

However, when making your own spice blends, you can easily adjust and add a pinch of cayenne pepper for more heat…that’s the beauty of cooking at home1

Do I have to add the sugar in this seasoning?

The very little sugar that is added to this homemade fajita seasoning mix is used to balance the other spices well. It complements the overall flavor and enhances the savory seasonings and spices.

You can omit it but you may be surprised to learn that most store-bought mixes have sugar as well.

How can I prevent the seasoning from clumping together during storage?

For longer storage, I recommend using white sugar instead of brown sugar. Also consider adding 1/2 of a teaspoon of cornstarch to the seasoning blend. This helps to absorb moisture and prevent clumping. But use it sparingly to avoid altering the flavor of the seasoning.
