INGREDIENT NOTES & SUBSTITUTIONS

Meatballs: My favorite Trader Joe’s frozen meatballs are the Italian-style, but you can also use the turkey meatballs or the mini meatballs!

Brioche buns: Use whatever buns you like or opt for a crusty baugette.

Cheese: Provolone cheese melts so well but mozzarella is also a great option.

Aglio Olio Seasoning: If you can’t find this in store, ASK! It’s sooooo good! If all else fails, Italian seasoning is fine.

Ingredients

  • 2 24 oz. jars marinara sauce My favorite from TJ's is the "Rustico," or I use Rao's
  • 1 16. oz. package of frozen meatballs I prefer the Italian-style but the turkey ones are OK, too
  • 2-4 tsp TJ's Aglio Olio spice Trader Joe's Aglio Olio
  • 4-6 brioche buns or a baugette
  • 4-6 slices Provolone cheese
  • grated parmesan cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Add: To a large skillet over medium-high heat, add marinara sauce, frozen meatballs, and 2 tsp. of  Aglio Olio spice. Give everything a big stir. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally until meatballs are warmed through.
  • Prepare Buns: While the meatballs are cooking, preheat oven to 350°F. Open the rolls and place your provolone cheese slices inside each roll. Bake for 3-4 minutes until cheese is melted and the rolls are slightly toasted.
  • Assemble: Spoon meatballs and marinara sauce onto the toasted rolls. Top with a few more shakes of Agio Olio and Parmesan cheese (if using) and enjoy!
