RECIPE INGREDIENTS

You’ll need the following ingredients to make these delicious Oreo Blondie Recipe:

INGREDIENT NOTES

Butter: Use softened butter to make creaming easier. I am a 100% all-the-time salted butter gal! If you use unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to the batter to balance the flavors.

Flour: The original recipe called for boxed cake mix, but I have found that all-purpose flour does the job perfectly to achieve the same texture and flavor in these delicious Oreo blondies.

Oreos: Chunks of Oreos are mixed into the dough to create pockets of cookie goodness throughout the chewy blondies.

Chocolate Chips: Necessary for plenty of gooey chocolate flavor in every bite! Milk, chocolate, semi-sweet chips or white chocolate chips all work well.

HOW TO MAKE OREO BLONDIES: STEP BY STEP

Here are some quick visual instructions. Remember that full instructions with exact ingredients will be in the recipe card below!

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F and coat an 8×8 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, butter, or line it with parchment paper.

Using an electric hand mixer on high speed, cream light brown sugar, white sugar, and butter together in a large mixing bowl until well combined.

Add the eggs and continue mixing on high speed until they are fully incorporated into the mixture.

Step 2: Reduce the speed of the electric mixer and gently incorporate the flour until it is fully combined with the wet ingredients and no flour mixture remains.

Step 3: Use a large spoon or spatula and fold in the chocolate chips and crushed Oreos until they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.

Step 4: Spread the blondie batter evenly into the prepared pan using a rubber spatula and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the pan comes out clean, and the edges turn golden brown.

When removed from the oven, allow the blondie bars to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

RECIPE TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Use softened butter. When creaming butter with sugars, ensure the butter is softened first. If you have melted butter – let it cool for a few minutes before creaming. If your butter is cold, grate it using the largest holes on a box grater into a bowl. The increased surface area will help the butter soften quickly.

  • Cream blondies well. When creaming the butter and sugars, mix on high speed until the mixture is well combined and slightly fluffy. The speed helps to incorporate air into the creamed mixture, resulting in lighter blondies.

  • Get Oreo chunks fast. Throw the Oreos into a gallon freezer bag and crush them with a meat mallet or rolling pin. You’ll have perfect Oreo cookie pieces without the mess.

  • Don’t overbake. To maintain the chewy consistency, it’s important that you take them from the oven when they start getting golden brown around the edges.

  • Serve blondies warm or cooled. You can serve these Oreo blondies straight from the oven or allow them to cool to room temperature. They will be easier to slice when cooled but are much more gooey when served straight from the oven.

🌟CONFIDENCE TIP 🌟
To get perfect, clean cuts on your blondies, allow them to cool to room temperature. Then use a plastic butter knife to get clean, crisp cuts.

STORAGE & REHEATING

  • Storage: You can store your leftover blondie bars in the 8×8 inch baking dish for up to 4 days on the counter covered with plastic wrap or foil. Alternatively, you can transfer your leftovers to an airtight container and store them on the counter for up to 5 days.
  • Freezing: Allow the blondies to cool completely. For longer storage and to prevent freezer burn, individually wrap each blondie cookie bar in plastic wrap. This also makes it easier to grab one whenever you want a treat. Then transfer to a sealed container or freezer-safe bag and seal. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight at room temperature.

ADDITIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Oreo flavors: I love making this with original Oreos, but you can use other flavors like mint Oreos, golden Oreos, or limited edition seasonal flavors.

White chocolate chips: Make them truly blonde brownies by swapping the chocolate chips with white chocolate chips and using golden Oreos.

ADDITIONS:
Oreo brownies: Add cocoa powder to the cake batter to turn these blondies into regular brownies with an Oreo twist.

Mix-ins: Consider other tasty additions like chopped nuts for a little crunch, marshmallows, or swirling peanut butter into the batter before it goes into the oven.

Tasty topping: Add a scoop of your favorite ice cream while they are still warm. Or spread frosting or whipped cream on top of the blondies for the best Oreo blondies.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

How are blondies different than brownies?

Brownies also have a more fudgy texture while brownies are more cake-like consistency with a crisp edge.

Yes, blondies are typically chewy. The combination of creamed butter and sugars contributes to their chewiness, creating a nice contrast between the soft interior and crispy exterior.

What’s the best way to serve these Oreo blondies?

For an extra decadent treat for a special occasion, drizzle melted chocolate or caramel over them and top with extra chocolate chips and smaller pieces of crushed Oreos. Or enjoy them without anything else and let their perfect blend of flavors and textures shine! You can’t go wrong!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chopped/crushed Oreos (about 16 Oreos) See Note 1

Instructions

  • Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F and coat an 8×8 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, butter, or line it with parchment paper.
  • Cream: Using an electric hand mixer on high speed, cream the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and butter together in a large mixing bowl, until well-combined–it will be more dough-like vs. a cake mix batter.
Add the eggs and continue mixing on a high speed until they are fully incorporated into the mixture.
  • Add: Reduce the speed of your hand mixer and gently incorporate the flour until no dry pockets remain anywhere in the cookie dough.
  • Fold In Goodies: Use a large spoon or spatula to fold in the chocolate chips and Oreos until they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.
  • Bake: Spread your blondie batter evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick can be cleanly removed from the center of the pan and the edges begin to turn golden brown. Allow to cool a few minutes, then slice and serve!
Note: These blondies are much easier (and less messy!) to cut when they are at room temperature. Use a plastic butter knife to get smooth, clean cuts.

Notes

Note 1: I throw my Oreos into a gallon freezer bag and crush them with a meat mallet–so satisfying!

I wanted to make this to take to a gathering. Totally raw. It wasn’t any better when I cooked it an additional 20 minutes. Thanks for forcing me to get something terrible from the Kroger bakery last minute.
