Although nothing compares to my favorite Indian takeout place, I’ve tried dozens of tikka masala “simmer sauces” and this one is by far my favorite!
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
No. One downside of this sauce is it lacks heat. Yes, it’s pretty flavorful with spices such as garlic, chili powder, coriander, etc. However, if you are comparing it to takeout Indian tikka masala, I would say it’s more tomato-forward than spice-forward if that makes sense!
If you’re big on spices and BIG flavors, you may find this curry sauce a bit bland.
Chicken Tikka Masala is only the beginning! Here are 3 other unique ways to use this delicious sauce:
1. As a marinade for chicken drumsticks or wings.
2. Spread it on pizza instead of marinara sauce. Top with cheese, red onions, cooked chicken, and top with fresh cilantro!
3. Add a can of coconut milk to this curry sauce and enjoy it over veggies (it’s yummy with sweet potatoes!).

Trader Joe’s Tikka Masala Curry Sauce with Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 lb. chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 8.8 oz. packages Trader Joe's Tikka Masala Curry Sauce
- 2 packages Trader Joe's frozen jasmine rice or any other cooked rice
- chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
- olive oil
Instructions
- Cook Chicken: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add chicken. Cook chicken pieces for 5-6 minutes until cooked through.
- Add Sauce & Simmer: Add both packages of the Trader Joe's Tikka Masala Curry Sauce and stir to combine. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3-4 minutes. The sauce gets a bit thick as it cooks, so I like to add 1-2 tbsp of water to thin it out a bit. While the chicken tikka is simmering, cook the frozen rice.
- Finish: Serve chicken tikka masala over rice and garnish with lots of fresh cilantro, if you like! I like to serve this dish with a green veggie like this air fryer broccoli.
