INGREDIENT NOTES, ADDITIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS
Sausage: Use sweet or spicy Italian sausage, removed from the casings.
Bruschetta sauce: Use the refrigerated version (shown above). If you can’t find it, you can just use diced tomatoes.
Gnocchi: Use one package of shelf-stable gnocchi.
Aglio Olio Seasoning: This is my go-to spice blend ! It’s a little garlicky, a tad bit spicy from the red pepper flakes, and contains some salt. It’s perfection in any Italian-style dish. You can also use a bit of Italian seasoning if you don’t have any on hand. Or better yet, order it here!
Yummy additions: Two ingredients I sometimes like to add are mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. Mushrooms add extra savoriness and sun dried tomatoes bring a slightly sweet, concentrated flavor that pairs nicely with Italian sausage.

CASEY’S TIPS
- Chop the spinach: I like giving my spinach a rough chop so it evenly distributes throughout the dish. But if you are crunched for time, you can just throw in a few handfuls of baby spinach as-is.
- Extra broth: If the dish is starting to look dry before the gnocchi is cooked, splash in a little extra chicken broth to loosen everything up.
- Make it creamy: A splash of cream or half and half can make the sauce a little richer and oh, so delish!
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave with a small splash of broth to keep the gnocchi from drying out.
How to Serve
- Green salad: This rich dish pairs perfectly with this simple arugula salad with lemon and Parmesan.
- Garlic Bread: Yes to lots of crusty bread to soak up all the scrumptious sauce!
- Lunch portions: I like serving smaller portions alongside a hearty chopped Italian salad like this one for a filling meal without extra cooking.

Veggie broth would be fine, but water might be a bit bland 🙂
