A package of Trader Joe's Frozen Beef and Broccoli.

I am usually a big fan of Trader Joe’s frozen foods, but some of them just don’t hit the mark. Trader Joe’s Beef and Broccoli has a cult-ish following and many people love it.

So let’s discuss!

Trader Joe’s Frozen Beef and Broccoli comes in a 24 oz. package that includes separate packages for the beef, broccoli, and sauce.

The package says it has 7 servings….BAHAHAHA! Not sure where that number came from unless each person eats 2-4 “servings,” then that number is way off!

This package feeds three people MAX.

  1. Easy: There’s nothing like TJ’s for an easy frozen meal and their broccoli and beef is no exception. Just heat and serve — it can be on the table in 10 minutes flat.
  2. Affordable: Each 24 oz. bag is only $4.49!
  3. Can be spiced up! Preparing the broccoli and beef in the air fryer and adding a little Crunchy Chili Onion can work wonders!

  1. Sweetness: Most beef and broccoli dishes I’ve had have more of a deep, umami flavor. This Trader Joe’s Frozen Beef and Broccoli is more on the sweet side which I feel is a bit off-putting.
  2. Beef Texture: The beef is supposed to be breaded and “deep fried” but when prepared as directed on the package, it completely misses the mark. I found it a bit rubbery.
  3. Frozen Broccoli: I am not a fan of frozen veggies in a dish like this. When prepared as directed (stovetop), it can get very mushy. If you like your stir-fried veggies crisp-tender, you might want to make your own easy beef and broccoli or try my air fryer method below!

There are two easy things you can do to make this frozen dish so much better:

  1. Air Fry: Preparing this beef and broccoli in the air fryer is KEY in my opinion, to improving the texture of the dish. See my full instructions in the recipe card below!
  2. Toppings: The sauce is too sweet for my taste, but I found just adding some Crunchy Chili Onion and a drizzle of soy sauce, helped balance out the sweetness tremendously. I also like topping it with green onions for some freshness!

How many servings are in Trader Joe’s Frozen Beef and Broccoli?

Well, the package says SEVEN but let’s be realistic! This package will serve 2-3 people, tops…and that’s if you include rice.

What is the best way to prepare frozen beef and broccoli?

After testing this dish a few times using the package directions and the air fryer, the air fryer BY FAR is the best way to prepare it!

  • 1 24 oz. package Trader Joe's frozen beef and broccoli
  • 2-3 tbsp Crunchy Chili Onion optional, see product here
  • 1-2 tbsp soy sauce optional
  • chopped green onions optional
  • Trader Joe's frozen rice packets, for serving

  • Prep: If cooking from frozen, place the sauce packet in a glass of warm water; set aside.
  • Air Fry Beef: Place frozen beef in the air fryer basket in an even layer. Air fry at 400°F for 8-9 minutes.
  • Air Fry Broccoli: To the air fryer basket with the beef, add the broccoli. Give the basket a little shake so everything is more-less in an even layer. Cook at 400°F for 4 minutes more.
While the broccoli is cooking, pour the thawed sauce in a microwave-safe cup or dish and heat for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Toss and Finish: When the broccoli and beef are finished air frying, place into a large bowl. Toss with the heated sauce and serve over rice.
You can stir in the Crunchy Chili Onion, soy sauce, and green onions at this point, or you can just serve the "condiments" on the side and everyone can add their own!
