Ingredients needed to make Trader Joe's Cinnamon and Sugar bread French toast.

INGREDIENT NOTES & SUBSTITUTIONS

Hand Twisted Cinnamon and Sugar Bread: This bread is bakery-style and comes in an unsliced loaf. You can cut the slices however thick you like! However, I have found about 1 inch to be the sweet spot for French toast.

Milk: Feel free to use any type of milk you like (2%, whole milk, almond milk, etc). For a more decadent French toast, try heavy cream or half and half.

Casey’s Top Tip: Resist the urge to cook this French toast on too high of a heat (350°F or medium is perfect). You want that nice, golden brown color on the outside, but you also want it to be perfectly cooked the inside, too.

Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk Feel free to use any type of milk you like (2%, whole milk, almond milk, etc). For a more decadent French toast, try heavy cream or half and half.
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt or kosher salt
  • 6 slices Trader Joe's Hand Twisted Cinnamon and Sugar Bread cut into 1-inch slices (See Note 1)
  • 1-2 tbsp butter – for the skillet or griddle plus more for serving
  • maple syrup, powdered sugar, and berries for serving, optional

Instructions

  • Prep: Preheat a griddle to 350° or heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Mix: In a shallow dish or bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt for about 30 seconds until all ingredients are well combined.
  • Dip: Melt butter onto the griddle or skillet. While the butter is melting, dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture for about 3-4 seconds. Flip, and dip the other side so the bread is well coated. Gently shake off any excess egg mixture.
  • Fry: Place the bread on the preheated griddle or skillet and cook on one side for  3-4 minutes until golden brown, flip, and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Finish: Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve with fresh berries, if you like!

Notes

Note 1: Short on time? Cut thinner slices of bread for quicker cooking.
