INGREDIENT NOTES, ADDITIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS
Pulled Chicken: Trader Joe’s hardwood smoked pulled chicken comes fully cooked. All you have to do is heat and eat!
BBQ sauce: Use your favorite! My favorite Trader Joe’s BBQ sauce is Carolina Gold–but you can usually only find it in the summer.
Cole slaw mix: We’ll be taking a short cut here and using a store bought cole slaw mix. I prefer TJ’s organic slaw mix. The dressing is just better 🙂 You can also make your own homemade coleslaw.
Hot honey: This adds some sweetness and a little kick! You can also use regular honey for no spice or regular honey + hot sauce.

CASEY’S TIPS
- Don’t skip the vinegar: This might sound like a strange ingredient but it reallyyyyy takes this pre-cooked chicken up a notch and makes it taste “homemade!”
- Slaw topping: If you don’t like the Trader Joe’s slaw and dressing, make your own! Here is my favorite easy slaw recipe.
- Storage: Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. You can reheat leftovers in the microwave before putting it on your bun.
How to Serve
- Salad: These sandwiches pair perfectly with a nice summery salad like this corn salad, broccoli salad, and of course, potato salad!
- Classic sides: Mac and cheese (easy Trader Joe’s version!) and baked beans are classic side dishes for pulled chicken.
- Easy breezy: Potato chips, frozen french fries or sweet potato fries are easy, no fuss sides.
