I created this kitchen food essentials list based on YEARS of experience trying to please 5 very different palettes in my home!! With these kitchen food essentials, I feel like everyone can find SOMETHING they like and I can have my kitchen stocked to make quick and easy meals, too!
Kitchen Food Essentials: Pantry Essentials
These are items that I love having on hand for snacks and quick meals. Here is where you can also add any favorite dry snacks like chips, crackers, dried fruit, etc.
- Pasta Sauce
- Dry Pasta
- Chicken Stock
- Peanut Butter
- Granola Bars
- Pancake Mix
These are a few of my favorite pantry storage containers:
Rubbermaid 16 Cup Storage Container: I love these containers for storing rice and other dry goods like oats or pasta.
Large Storage Baskets: I like keeping all of the bread/buns/bagels, etc in one place. These wire baskets are great because you can see exactly what’s in them!
Kitchen Food Essentials: Fridge Essentials
Having these fridge essentials on hand can be a lifesaver in a lunch or dinner pinch! You can make easy throw together “meals” like sandwiches, eggs, and quesadillas! I love having mixed greens on hand for a quick side salad.
- Cheese slices
- Shredded Cheese
- Fresh Fruit/veggies (your faves)
- Mixed greens
These are a few of my favorite fridge storage containers:
Set of 6 Refrigerator Storage Containers: I just got a set of these storage containers for the fridge and I LOVE THEM! I use them both in the fridge and the pantry! The long skinny one is perfect for storing all of my teabags!
Fridge Lazy Susan: GAMER CHANGER! I love this thing! I have all of our “everyday” essentials in here for easy access like maple syrup, ketchup, coconut milk, etc. LOVE IT!!!
Kitchen Food Essentials: Freezer Essentials
A well-stocked freezer is so important! There are a zillion recipes you can make with ground beef or turkey and having frozen meatballs on hand has saved me many nights!
- Ground beef/turkey
- Chicken breast
- Frozen meatballs
- Frozen fruit
- French fries
- Freezer meals (pizza/single serve)

These are my favorite freezer storage containers:
Plastic Storage Baskets: Instead of just throwing everything into my big freezer drawer, I like using these baskets to separate frozen meats, frozen fruit, kid food, and so on. I just stack “boxed” items like frozen pizza or single-serve meals.
Kitchen Food Essentials: Baking Essentials
I am not a huge baker (the measuring part isn’t really my style!), but I do have some easy go-to cookie recipes that I will whip up once in a blue moon. Having brownie mix on hand is also great!
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- Baking soda
- Baking powder
- Chocolate chips
- Brownie mix
These are my favorite baking storage containers:
Ceramic Canister Set: We have literally had this set for going on 18 years now and it’s held up so well and still going strong!
If I wanted to upgrade, these are super cute!!
Kitchen Food Essentials: Spices/Oils/Condiments
“Investing” in some basic spices are key to a well-stocked kitchen. I have found that taco seasoning and no-MSG ranch seasoning (I get mine at Costco) can really save the day!
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Red or white wine vinegar
- Taco seasoning
- Ranch seasoning (look for no-MSG)
- Garlic powder
- Chili Powder
- Italian seasoning
- BBQ sauce
- Soy sauce
- Ranch dressing
